Texas Holdem Poker

Texas Holdem poker is a fast paced, mentally exhausting and adrenaline driven 7-card poker game which most people consider to be the most exciting variation of all poker games. Texas holdem poker has gained much popularity since the movie Rounders (1998), which starred Matt Damon and Edward Norton publicized back door poker games. Texas holdem poker though is not like the movies, a player does not truly understand the odds involved in each hand until experience overrides the obvious.

How to Deal on Basic Texas Hold em Poker Tables

Each player receives two cards facing down called the "hole" cards. The remaining cards are dealt face up in the center of the table, to be shared by all poker players. Texas holdem blinds always begin with the first active player to the left of the dealer button. The winning hand is the strongest hand found by combining a player's pocket cards and the community cards.

You can win with a hand made up from both your pocket cards and three community cards, or one pocket card and four community cards. You can even share in the winning if you are still in and the board, the five community cards, makes up the winning texas holdem poker hand.

Pot Limit and No Limit Texas Holdem Poker

Pot Limit and No Limit Texas Holdem are two other variants of this popular poker game. The rules are pretty much the same except for betting.

Head-to-Head Texas Holdem Poker

This variation of Holdem poker allows you to pit your skills against just one other online player. Our poker room enforces the traditional special Blinds rule for one-on-one Holdem poker, whether at one of our special two seat tables or at a larger table at which only two players are seated. Only in head-to-head holdem poker, the blinds are handled differently than you might expect.

In Heads-Up Texas Holdem, the small blind is posted by the dealer, rather than the player to the left of the dealer. The other player posts the big blind. On our poker tables that support more than two players, our system will switch to head-to-head rules whenever there are only two players dealt in.

Texas Holdem Poker Tournaments

Our poker room offers both single table and multi-table texas holdem poker tournaments. Holdem poker tournaments are another exciting and fun way of learning how to play texas holdem poker games.

Texas Holdem Strategies

When playing Texas Holdem poker, a tight/aggressive approach will probably be the most profitable style for you to play especially when playing against experienced No-Limit Texas Holdem players. If the game is fixed limit, you need to be careful which cards you decide to play since weak players usually hit their cards in the beginning and players generally do not bust out of the game early. However, when playing Limit Texas Holdem the game will prove a deceptive side to Holdem poker especially for less experienced poker players. Most limit Texas Holdem players have a false notion that you can simply call all the poker hands that you have pot odds in. For more information please visit our texas holdem poker hand odds page.

The purpose of playing Texas Holdem poker is to learn, adapt and form your own playing style. There are always starting hands that you should immediately try to take command with giving you the table advantage but will not always work. Texas Holdem poker is a game of percentages and pot odds where one play could double your chips or send you home. The long story short is that if you continue to play Texas Holdem the correct way and adapt to player styles, losing on the river will not be so difficult since most hands will not make it that far.
